Kepa’s resurrection continued with some top saves, but Solniges struggled for Bruce.

Chelsea have reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with the hard work of Aston Villa. I won the penalty shootout.

Bruce needed a shootout after Reece James stabbed an important kick and drew 1-1 in the 90th minute.

Previously, Timo Werner started scoring with backpost headers.

But Aston Villa’s young Cameron Archer got even better by putting a stunning header in the upper corner-but when he went to the spot kick, a wasted chance on his side came back and gave them I was bothered.

Here’s how Simon Phillips evaluated Thomas Tuchel’s men …

Kepa Arrizabalaga-9

He made some great saves to leave Chelsea in the match in the first half and was good at stealing the ball from the cross.

It was a big savings even in shootout.

Reece James-8

Playing as a centre-back, he looked very comfortable there, used the ball well and did some great recovery tackles.

He provided a beautiful cross for the opening goal. You have won the final penalty for passing Chelsea.

Trevo Charova-8

As the main central defender, I was very calm and played with great confidence.

He had a great tackle and passcut in the first half, but struggled a little with Archer in the second half.

Malang Sarr-5

It was sometimes unstable and was booked in the middle of the first half.

The ball has some good touches and is comfortable in most cases, but he gave the ball several times.

Callum Hudson-Odoi-7

He had to try to beat his man more, but he had a very good moment on the right side linking with Reece James and worked hard defensively.

Ashley Young was angry for most of the second half.

Saul Niguez-5

Another shocking first 45 minutes from the Spaniards almost reflected Chelsea’s debut, always letting go of the ball and not actually looking up.

He made significant improvements in the second half and made some important efforts.

The show from Kante in the first half was a rare and poor show where he couldn’t hit a simple pass and lost the ball more often than he was accustomed to.

Tonight’s captain went down half-time, probably to keep him resting for the weekend rather than his performance.

Ben Chilwell-7

There were some sloppy moments from him early on, but he hasn’t played that long since then-this was his first start since the Champions League final.

As the game progressed, he began to grow a little more and played with much more confidence and energy above and below the sides.

Crashed his penalty against the bar when the goal would have sealed the victory.

Hakim Ziyech-5

Another very frustrating first half from him, and like Sole, he continued to waste the chance of not being able to hand out the ball or hit a simple through ball.

He got a little better in the second half, but that wasn’t enough.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek-10

The best player on the Chelsea pitch, the pure class of the ball, and very confident and calm.

He was asked to play an unfamiliar holding role tonight, and he was great.

Timo Werner-7

Like Ziyech’s performance, Werner was very frustrated to see again in the first half.

He came back a little more in the second half, achieved the wonderful goal of raising Chelsea to 1-0, used the ball better and became a real threat.

Mason Mount for Singing (HT) -8

When he came half-time, he certainly made a big difference, adding energy and strength. I blamed him for his penalty.

Romelu Lukaku for Ziyech (75 minutes) -7

It was his usual annoyance to the defender when he came. I confidently won his penalty.

Saul Niguez’s Ross Barkley (75 minutes) -7

In addition to some good energy and direct play, we’ve added one great sliding tackle. Also scored from 12 yards.
