“Little Kids and Tiaras” star Kaylia Posey has died at the age of 16, just days after attending her high school prom, her mother said.
Ms. Posey participated in the reality series TLC, which ran from 2009 to 2013 and involved families preparing their children to compete in beauty pageants.
She became a popular GIF when the video with her ear-to-ear smile went viral.
Her mother, Marcy Posey Gutterman, posted on Facebook earlier Tuesday: “I have no words or thoughts. A beautiful girl is gone.
“Please give us privacy while we mourn the loss of Kaylia. My baby is forever.
On Sunday, Ms. Gutterman posted photos of Ms. Posey in a floor-length shiny dress while attending the ball.
The cause of her death has not been confirmed.
Ms. Posey continued to compete in contests, most recently at Miss Washington Teen USA in February.
She grew into a great interest in body distortion, even launching an Instagram dedicated to her hobby.
April Hatton, whose daughter Kayla appeared with Mrs. Posey on the show, paid tribute to her online: “I’m still trying to tie my head to what I woke up to this morning and what I read throughout my show! So much love for this girl is an understatement!
“We first saw this cute little girl in her yellow tropical outfit at the California Tropics Tri-State, I knew it was going to be one day!” I didn’t know who she was then. I will never forget this day.
“From young children and tiaras to teenagers, the girls became friends and created so many memories together as they grew up.”
