Jimmy Rave: Former wrestling star died at age 39 just weeks after amputation | Ent & Arts News

Former wrestling star Jimmy Rave died a few weeks after his legs were amputated in the fight against drug addiction, his agent said.

Daughter Kayla and wrestling agent Bill Berence confirmed on Tuesday that the 39-year-old, whose real name is James Michael Gaffy, had died.

The cause of his death has not been revealed, but a statement shared on Mr. Berence’s Twitter account said:

“His struggle resulted in amputations of his arms, and later his legs.

“James survives with his ex-wife Felicia, daughter Kayla, son James II, and parents Jim & Toni Gaffy.”

In October, Rave announced that he had surgery to remove both legs due to a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection.

It happened almost a year after his arm was amputated and forced him to retire from the ring.

The statement shared by Behrens pays homage to Rave’s lifelong achievements.

“His career began in 1999 and lasted for over 20 years. He was a two-time NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion.

“He appeared in total non-stop action wrestling and teamed up with Lance (Whit) Rock as’Rock and Rave Infection’,” he added.

“Apart from wrestling, he was the director of Peer Support, Wellness and Respite Centers in Bartow County, Georgia for several years.”

Raves faced an increase in hospital invoices in his last year and tweeted an image of a hospital invoice totaling $ 103,314.77 (£ 78,261) in October.

In the tweet, he wrote: “Thanks to everyone who has supported this journey so far.

“Your contributions have helped me bring my daily life and life back to normal. I recently received this invoice by mail … awesome!”

He also previously revealed that he had experienced drug addiction in the past and entered rehab in 2009.

In November 2020, he announced his retirement on Twitter after amputating his arm.

He states: “My world collapsed last Tuesday when a doctor found an infection in my left arm.

“I tried to do it, but it was too late to see the doctor and they had to amputate my left arm on the elbow. Thus effectively the carrier in my ring. It’s over, “he added.
