Jenson Button made a phenomenal revelation about Fernando Alonso’s time with McLaren.
In a clear interview with Nico Rosberg on the 2016 World Champion YouTube channel, Button claims that if the Spaniards are late, they will sometimes retire their cars, even if nothing goes wrong.
The two were McLaren teammates for two seasons, 2015 and 2016, and suffered from Honda’s uncompetitive engine.
Alonso He was particularly critical and was named the “GP2 engine” when he was overtaken at the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix.
buttonThe bomb will frown on McLaren and Honda, which are currently supplying Red Bull.
He told Rosberg:
“We weren’t fighting anyone else. We were so late that we were fighting each other and playing games. Some of them didn’t want to go in too much.
“In most cases, it was suppressing things. It was suppressing the pace and suppressing information about the setup.
“He tried to get the most out of his car, even if he didn’t have the pace.
“But if you were in front of him, he would have tried different strategies to see if they would work.
“If he was behind me, he would retire from the race saying,’There was a problem with the car’!
“We didn’t get any points, so he was saving the car for the next race, but he said,” I have a problem, I have a problem! “
“”[The team] “No, Fernando, no problem. Keep driving.”
“It was an interesting time. I enjoyed the time with Fernando. He had immeasurable talent.”
Button was also asked by Rosberg about his time as Lewis Hamilton’s teammate at McLaren.
The two British competed side by side for three seasons before Hamilton left for Mercedes.
Button says that between Hamilton and Alonso, the seven-time World Champion was faster and the Spaniards were the more “perfect drivers”.
He added: [faster over one lap].. You can only compare when you have it as a teammate.
“I can’t compare it now, but the most complete driver was Fernando.
“He will think he’s faster than you in every way. Lewis was a very candid teammate.
“He was very fast. In the test, he couldn’t really increase his pace. I don’t think he was doing it intentionally.
“But when he enters qualifying, he will participate in it. He will always find a lap time.”
