Seeing a celebrity in a public place is a surreal experience.
While it’s tempting to say hello and ask for a selfie, it can feel incredibly risky.
What if it’s the wrong identity … or worse, if they don’t want to be bothered?
All these thoughts would go through Jane’s head as she sat on the Edinburgh train.
She was convinced that Radio 1 DJ Greg James was sitting on the other side of the aisle.
Too shy to check, she sent a message to her daughter to share the gossip – unaware that things would get even more surreal.
Her daughter Colleen tweeted directly to the host of the breakfast show and wrote: “My mom thinks she’s sitting next to you on a train from Edinburgh right now, so if you could confirm, that would be amazing.
“Her name is Jane and she just drank white wine and says you’re red.”
Minutes later, James posted a video showing Colleen’s tweet on his laptop screen … along with a half-full glass of red wine.
The camera then turns to a woman concentrating on her phone and approaches her half-full glass of white wine.
“Are you Jane?” the DJ asks.
“I’m Jane,” she replies nervously, adding, “Why?”
Laughing, James rotated his laptop so she could see the tweet sent by her daughter.
A puzzled passenger seemed to be gently recording the exchange in several places backwards.
The couple later shared a selfie, at which they raised their glasses together.
Colleen was pleased to see her mother share a moment with the star, writing, “I can’t believe two legends meet, tell her I miss her.”
