Jamie Oliver’s first cookbook used a recipe scribbled on the “behind the cigarette pack and beer mat” stored in a trash bag.
The 46-year-old TV chef and restaurateur became famous in 1999 on his BBC TV show, The Naked Chef.
Now he is set up to host a Channel 4 program called the Great Cookbook Challenge Jamie Oliver, He is helping an aspiring cook release his recipe collection.
Regarding his first publishing deal, Oliver told the Radio Times: “I was a special needs kid at school and didn’t expect to write a book.”
The chef was previously open about how he struggled at school DyslexiaBut since then, I’ve learned how it doesn’t hold him back.
After his first show, Oliver says he was told: “Oh, that’s a shame. Usually we make cookbooks in series.”
“I said,” I have it. I wrote down all the recipes for the last five years, and they are in the trash bag. “
These were written “on the back of cigarette packs, beer mats, and order checks.”
Since then, Oliver has published numerous books and has become a popular name.
During his entry into the publishing industry, Oliver says he lived in a penguins office and helped sell books to the windows of a bookstore.
He says the first cookbook he was given so far was written by Delia Smith.
“She knew there was a logic between simplicity, accessibility, and aspirations.
“You have to get the right balance.”
The Great Cookbook Challenge will air on Channel 4 on Monday, January 31st.
