Jamal Edwards’ mother Brenda Edwards describes the last moments of the founder of SBTV in an emotional interview | Ents and art news

Music entrepreneur and YouTube star Jamal Edwards suffered a “sudden” cardiac arrest and died holding his mother’s hand, she said in her first interview since his death.

Singer and debauched women star Brenda Edwards talks about her son to colleague Colin Nolan before returning to the show later this week.

Jamal Edwards is the founder of the music platform SBTV, which has created a starting point for the careers of a long list of artists, including Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Dave, J Hus, AJ Tracey and Krept & Konan.

His death at the age of 31 on February 20, the music industry was shocked by tributes from Sheeran, Idris Elba, Dua Lipa, Trevor Nelson, Gabriel and Rita Ora, as well as Prince Charles and former Prime Minister David Cameron.

Edwards told Nolan, “I was with him and his sister was with us. We were all at home.

“It was sudden and unexpected, and he was given a cardiac arrest and then went with me, holding his hand. So … I get a little comfort from knowing I’m with him.

However, she went on to say that as much as it is a consolation, “at the same time, it is a vision I will never forget.”

She told Nolan that she was still talking to her son, saying, “I wake up every morning and apparently all his pictures are still in the house, I look at him and I say ‘Good morning, darling’ and I say ‘Good night.’ , baby. And I think that’s what keeps me going. “

Born in Luton before moving to Acton in West London, Edwards was a teenager when he founded SBTV in 2006 in his bedroom. He started uploading videos he recorded from his friends who appeared on his mansion, and eventually grew the YouTube channel into a multimillion-dollar online youth television.

He received an MBE for music services in 2014 and was an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, which helps young people start their own businesses.
