The performances of the Russian state ballet troupe were canceled in several theaters in the United Kingdom after the invasion of Ukraine.
Wolverhampton Grand Theater, Royal & Derngate Theater in Northampton and The New Peterborough Theater have announced the cancellation of performances in the coming days and weeks.
This comes after the Royal Opera announced that it was canceling the tour of the Moscow-based Bolshoi Ballet, which was to take place in London this summer.
The Wolverhampton Grand Theater cancels release
In a statement, the Wolverhampton Grand Theater said: “Discussions and consultations between management, producers and agents have been ongoing since last Thursday.
“The decision to cancel is absolutely the right thing to do, given the circumstances, but it will have a significant financial impact on the theater, which is still recovering from the closure forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Wolverhampton Grand Theater is a charity that works exclusively within the whole community, working with everyone.”
It says that all customers who have purchased tickets for the performances from February 28 to March 2 will receive a full refund.

The Royal & Derngate Theater in Northampton canceled the show
The Royal & Derngate Theater in Northampton, which was to stage the Nutcracker from the Russian State Ballet of Siberia, canceled the show on February 26.
A statement said: “Given the situation in Ukraine, Royal & Derngate has decided to cancel today’s performances of the Russian State Ballet.”
The theater apologized for the inconvenience and for the brief notice of the announcement. It says those who have bought tickets will receive a full refund.
All customers who have purchased ballet tickets will receive a full refund and will contact our box office team within the next 10 days. They ask you not to contact them at the moment.

The new Peterborough Theater has also confirmed that it has canceled performances of the Russian State Ballet of Siberia, scheduled for March 22nd and 23rd, “in light of the ongoing situation in Ukraine”.
The Kremlin is already deprived of two prestigious events to be held in Russia.
The Champions League final in May has been moved to Paris, and the Russian Formula One Grand Prix, due to be held in September, has been canceled.
