In a statement, Essex police confirmed that Sir David Amess had died after being attacked.

They say: “A man was arrested on murder charges after being stabbed in Leon Sea.

“I was called to Eastwood Road North after 12:05 pm. Sadly, a man later died. The man was arrested on the scene.

“We are not looking for anyone else.”
