This law is officially known as the Child Sex Offender Disclosure System.

Scotland tells parents, caregivers, and guardians of children under the age of 18 whether anyone who comes into contact with the child has a record of sexual offenses against the child, or whether there is a record of other offenses. The child is at risk, implementing a similar national plan called “Keeping the Child Safe,” which you can ask the police.

Such schemes are not officially available in Northern Ireland. However, information about sex offenders may and may be shared in a police-controlled manner if required for child protection or risk management purposes.

Who registers as a sex offender?
