Lots of new music will come out in 2022, with Jacqui Swift picking 22 acts today and making it bigger next year. .. .. Start with the top 10 tips for SFTW.
1. Holly Humberstone
Last year’s SFTW favorite, a 22-year-old former violinist from Grantham, Lincolnshire, won the Rising Star Award at the Brit Awards and said: .. “
She was discovered after appearing on a local BBC Introducing radio show and can now count Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi as big fans.
Capaldi invited her to the tour and Fender asked her to record an acoustic version of his song “Seventeen Going Under.”
Her storytelling songs are a hot topic and she is compared to Lord and Phoebe Bridgers.
EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin in November follows the acclaimed debut Falling Asleep At The Wheel.
2. Gracie Abrams
Daughter of JJ Abrams, director of Star Wars. Her recent show at Omeara in London sold out in seconds.
The 22-year-old has the knack for writing poetic and emotional songs about relationships.
She is National’s Aaron Dessner (Taylor Swift, Sharon Van Etten), Joel Little (Road, Marina), and her regular collaborator Blake Slatkin (Kid Laroy, Lil Lil). Kate Bush is an inspiration, citing Joni Mitchell and Olivia Rodrigo in collaboration with Nath X, Justin Bieber).
3. Wet leg
Ever since Mark King hit a level 42 bass in the 1980s, the Isle of Wight band has never been so excited.
Hampshire’s Lian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who met at school, have seen the first single chaise longues everywhere on the radio.
And along with a follow-up wet dream, a song about the source sending unwanted text, they have accumulated over 8.5 million streams and 3 million views on YouTube.
Expect more witty lyrics when their debut album is released in April.
4. MIMI WEBB
It’s been another year for a singer-songwriter from Canterbury, Kent.
Mimi is the first British female artist to have two singles in the Top 15 before the release of her debut album since Dua Lipa in 2017, with Good Without and Dumb Love.
She states: “I’m trying to write a very emotional and realistic song.
I hope you feel like I’m singing my story. Her debut EP Seven Shade of Heartbreak was a top 10 hit, but her recent UK tour sold out in four hours.
Inspired by Amy Winehouse, Adele, Sam Smith and Emeli Sandé.
5. Skinner Brothers
A four-piece London piece consisting of frontmen Zack Skinner, Joe Fisher (guitar), Perry Meadowcroft (bass) and Alfie Clayton (drums).
They were chosen to support Kasabian and the Street in 2021, and you may have seen them at the Neighborhood Weekender and Isle of Wight Festival.
With their recent release, EP Culture Nonstop and the single Put Me Down As A Maybe, they have gained a lot of support for the new British guitar music.
6. Laura Young
THE South Londoner soundtracked the 2021 John Lewis Christmas ad on the cover of the 1984 classic Together In Electric Dreams.
Stardom is guaranteed to BRIT school graduates who have been selected as finalists for the 2022 Brit Rising Star Awards.
Managed by Nick Simanski, who managed Amy Winehouse, and Nick Huggett, who signed XL with Adele, she started writing songs at the age of 11 and won the national open mic contest at the age of 13. ..
She was in the studio with Grammy Award-winning producer Paul Epworth.
7.AIYANA-LEE
MUSIC is run by the London-born LA-based Aiyana-Lee family.
Her grandfather is Motown singer Jimmy Ruffin, and The Temptations’ David Ruffin is her great uncle.
Raised by her mother (multi-platinum songwriter Nicole Datiana Anderson), she worked with KISA to create a song called Killa Killa.
She also works with Weekend, Nicki Minaj, Liana and Beyonce.

8. ARRDEE
BRIGHTON MC is all about enjoying things and seeing the fun aspects of life.
Inspired by Eminem and Lil Wayne, ArrDee (real name Riley Davies) began writing at school, and his witty and humorous wordplay earned him many fans and two top 10 singles.
His unlikely stars, Oliver Twist and 6AM In Brighton, have given him 6.8 million YouTube views and have become a notable name.
He also starred in the chart topper bodies of Tion Wayne and Russ Millions. Expect a New Year’s debut mixtape.
9. Yard act
This Leeds post-punk band is endorsed by actors Maxine Peake, Cillian Murphy and Sir Elton John.
Known for the dark and witty lyrics of songs like Payday and Dark Days EP.
These four pieces — James Smith (vocals), Ryan Needham (bass), Sam Shipstone (guitar) and Jay Russell (drums) are likened to Arctic Monkeys and Sleaford Mods.
They will release their debut album, The Overload, on January 21st.

10. ERIN RAE
Nashville folk singer-songwriter released the album Lighten Up in February.
Produced by Father John Misty collaborator Jonathan Wilson and featuring the recent singles “Candy & Curry” and “Modern Woman”. This is a song about what it means to be a woman today, working on the evolution of gender norms and expectations.
She is a friend of Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and is compared to Joni Mitchell. Catch her live in the UK next month.

18. PRIYA RAGU-Tamil-Swiss singer-songwriter. R & B and electro-pop sound that push the boundaries later won a spotlight at music shows … with Jools Holland. We will meet more of her in 2022.
19. Bree Runway – This flood of pop from Hackney, the finalist for the 2021 BBC Sound, is on Michelle Obama’s radar in collaboration with Missy Elliott.
20. ALISSIC – Brazilian-born Alissic is the wife of BMTH’s Oliver Sykes and co-authored and produced her first single, Like. You can immediately expect a more eccentric pop from her to brighten 2022.
21. EYK – That is, everyone you know is a brother, singer Rhys Kirkby-Cox, producer Harvey Kirby, a mix of hip-hop, garage, dance and punk. Their single “There For You” was given a lot of airplay when it was selected for Radio 1 Tune of the Week.
