Heather Knight says World Cup success is ‘written’ for England – Charlie Dean

England captain briar knight told his teammates World Cup success was ‘written’ for them ahead of their final clash with Australia Sunday, according to spinner Charlie Dean.

Knight’s side opened the tournament – and their title defense – with three straight losses, but a fifth straight win saw them reach a second consecutive final.

Having come close to exiting the tournament, England fought back emphatically, including a dominating 137-point victory over South Africa in the semi-finals.

Dean insisted the England squad were full of conviction ahead of their meeting with Australia, who they last beat in a one-day international in 2017.

“I think there’s definitely a lot of excitement,” the 21-year-old told PA news agency. “Heather said it was kind of written for us, the start we had and how amazing it would be to pull this off.

“So I think we all really believe in it and that’s really only half the battle.”

Dean feels that the desperation of having to win their last group games has forced England to find their feet.

“I think having must-have games really energizes you,” she added.

“Obviously it wasn’t the World Cup we expected or wanted, especially after those losses, but I think as a team we really came together and reflected on our performances.

“Being games to be won, we knew what we had to do and that kind of simplified things, finding out ‘this is what we’re going to do and this is how we’re going to do it’ – he doesn’t let not much room for reflection.

“So I think it probably helped us in some way, but it’s probably not the campaign we would have dreamed of.”

Dean made his England debut in September but impressed in his first major on his first overseas tour.

Asked about the short time between her debut and the World Cup, she said: “It seems a bit surreal actually. But it’s so exciting to be able to play against the best in the world and to be in a team. of such caliber, it’s quite humbling and I’m really looking forward to Sunday.
