A man has been arrested after he kicked a kitten in the sea at a Greek restaurant.
If the man is accused and convicted of animal cruelty, the man risks a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to € 50,000 (£ 42,000).
Footage of the shocking incident shows three people eating outside in the coastal restaurant on the island of Evia.
Two kittens approach them to ask for food and one of the diners dangles a small fish on the edge, tempting it to get closer.
When one kitten comes within inches of the side, it gets trapped in the shallow waters below.
A woman is heard laughing as the second kitten escapes.
Local people would have taken the kitten to a vet for examination and it was fortunately not harmed.
The video caused scandal on social media in Greece, leading to the arrest of the man.
The Greek police minister even slammed the dinner, saying ‘violence against animals is not acceptable’.
“I sincerely congratulate those who brought the matter to the attention of the public,” said Takis Theodorikakos.
