Gatka martial arts will be part of KIYG 2021

Panchkula (Haryana)[India], May 31 (ANI). Gatka martial arts, as a modern sport, is a standardized style of stick fighting between two or more opponents designed to mimic swords. It has its origins in Sikh history. Sri Guru Hargobindji, the sixth Guru, introduced the Siri religion to the concept of Miri Piri (secular power), allowing people to carry two swords.

It will also be a special attraction during the Khelo India Youth Games, which kick off on June 4 in Haryana and Gatka with 256 players (128 girls as well as boys) from 16 states.

Latin has always been a powerful weapon in northern India, used as a defense against dogs, enemies and even flooding rivers.

This modest weapon of self-defense – lati or gatka, of different sizes and techniques, is going to become a popular sport in 48 countries.

Making a weapon is called shatra vidya for self-defense. The Sikhs used weapons և Gatka in the 16th and 17th centuries to defend themselves from invaders who became mass murderers.

Gatka was one of about 30 weapons used by Sikh warriors called Nihans. Nihans have passed down the skills of shastra vidya to the generations, which are still displayed during their religious holidays ո shows.

In the 19th century, the British banned the Sikhs from carrying any of their traditional weapons, such as the sword, nejan, bhala, gandasa, etc., to prevent rebellion. Most Indian martial arts had to be practiced in secret, so they were confined to rural areas and survived as a popular sport. Gatka survived by replacing the sword, which was used like a cripple during this period.

As a modern sport Gatka came to life as a sport in 1936 when it was introduced by Punjab University in Lahore (now Punjab University, Chandigarh) in inter-university and inter-university competitions. The university has standardized sports. The Gatka rules were developed by Major Carter Singh Akali (Physical Director, RSD College Ferozepur) in 1936.

Gatka tournaments, which were disrupted by the split, resumed in the 1970s. In 1985, sports were banned again due to the fighting in Punjab. Through the efforts of the Gatka Federation of India, the Punjab Gatka Association, and others, the University of Punjab, Patiala, reintroduced the game in 2001 by holding intercollegiate tournaments. “Around 2009, the sport gained recognition in interuniversity tournaments.” Sport is an integral part of the Sikh heritage, while much research has been done on the Sikh religion, little is known about our tradition of martial arts. Since SAI և Sports. The Ministry included Gatka in traditional sports, it will now grow as a sport, “said H.S. Writing:

Religiously, Gatka sports are like a fencing game, players. ար male, և female! For protection, wear T-shirts and sneakers with a scarf. The material and dimensions of Gatka և farri (shield) are standardized for junior և senior players. In Punjab, where the sport originated, a 3% quota is reserved for Gatka medalists, and even the PPSC recognizes Gatka achievements. (ANI)
