Dillian Whyte: Tyson Fury ‘never knocked me down or let me down’ in past workouts

We are only one day away from a huge heavyweight title fight between Tyson’s Fury and Dillian Whytewith the pair set to hit the scales today ahead of tomorrow night’s blockbuster clash.

The fight sees Fury put on the WBC belt on the line at wembley stadium in front of 94,000 fans, in one of the biggest contests in British heavyweight boxing history. Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) waited a long time for a chance at world heavyweight gloryand he finally arrives on the biggest stage as the Jamaican-born Londoner looks to become the first man to defeat Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs).

Whyte, 34, last competed in March 2021, knocking out Alexander Povetkin to avenge his own stoppage loss to the Russian from August 2020. As inactive as Whyte has been in the ring since, he’s also been inactive apart from this one, refusing to attend last month’s first pre-fight press conference, opting to stay in Portugal to focus on his training for the fight instead.

The “Bodysnatcher” attended the Fight Week Wednesday press conference, admitting he was “ready to swing” at Fury if things had heated up, and the pair would face off again at today’s weigh-in.

Whyte takes on ‘idiot’ John Fury for press conference showdown

Dillian Whyte marked Tyson’s FuryJohn’s dad an “idiot” after the 57-year-old had to be restrained by his son during Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference.

The debates were surprisingly cordial, until the face-to-face, during which John Fury started yelling at a member of Whyte’s team. Tyson Fury held off his dad, while Whyte also stopped the scene from escalating into something physical.

“Tyson Fury’s dad needs to relax,” Whyte told BT Sport afterwards. “My man is 600 and he’s coming forward, and they’re trying not to let my guys come on stage.

“I said to him, ‘John, calm down, you’re an adult. You keep screaming and screaming like a child. It’s the day of your son and me. Why are you involved? He tries to get past his son.

Fury and Whyte finally fight with more than a title at stake

Dillian Whyte is here to ruin everything and he can do it, writes Steve Bunce. Tyson Fury is here to walk away with this enhanced legacy and he is capable of it. These are no ordinary fighters and this is no ordinary fight.

A mobile Fury builds a lead and holds a bit; an aggressive Whyte makes Fury work at a pace and tries to push him back. They will both take risks, they have to; they promised they would and they are fighting men of their word.

Fury will start very quickly; Whyte will have been in the cold ring for a good 10 minutes by then. The minutes before they are summoned by the referee will be decisive; Fury gets big and manic in those final seconds and Whyte doesn’t have to shrink.

In Las Vegas 2020, Wilder was beaten before the bell rang. He disappeared in front of the crowd, the last magic trick in the city of mirages.

And then they will fight. Fury will find a way. Be amazed if it’s easy. Don’t be shocked if there is controversy.
