Lollipop, an online food shopping assistant, has raised £ 5m in a seed round led by Octopus Ventures.
Lollipop will use the capital to continue developing its platform, which allows online food shoppers to plan meals and automatically add the necessary ingredients to baskets.
The firm is based in London and is headquartered in partnership with the British supermarket Sainsbury’s. Its platform, which is still in beta mode, allows users to add recipes, build custom meals, import external recipes and provides recipe suggestions based on nutritional and lifestyle needs.
The startup firm is targeting busy families who do not have the time to plan.

“It’s already hard to run the shop and feed the family. As the cost of living rises, it’s becoming more difficult for very happy parents who want to eat healthily, live sustainably and stick to a budget, ”said Foster – Carter, Lollipop’s CEO.
Additional investment in the seed round came from Maki VC, Anterra Capital and Plug and Play. JamJar and Speedinvest have also been capitalized by previous investors.
Plug and Play’s investment comes after a UK launched last monthin partnership with Jaguar Land Rover and BT Group.

The Lollipop seed round continues its pre-seed in December 2020. The startup has recently relocated to storage space in London Bridge and aims to double its staff by the end of the year.
“We are seeing more and more ways to shop for groceries, from meal kits to hourly delivery offers, but 80% of households spend more than an hour a week planning meals and online shopping, ”said Matt Chandler, Investor at Octopus Ventures.
“There is a huge gap in supermarket thinking which makes it easier for families to choose tasty meals and shop without restricting their choice.”
