Health Minister Sajid Javid has revealed that this particular rule will come into effect in the United Kingdom from Tuesday.

However, this rule does not apply to restaurants and pubs.

In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, it is already mandatory to wear masks on public transport and many indoor areas.

At the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show today, Javid said the measures introduced by the government would help ensure that people “enjoy Christmas with our family.”

He added that the government acted “quickly” and “proportionally.”

All contacts in suspected cases of Omicron should be self-quarantined, regardless of vaccination status.

Face covers are required to be worn in stores and public transport. However, bars and restaurants are exempt.

The Prime Minister also urged Mr Javid, along with his adviser, to explore the potential for rapid expansion of Booster Jab’s deployment.

This includes reducing the gap between the second dose of vaccine and booster immunization.
