EU sets deadline for UK to settle French fishing line

London [UK], November 25 (ANI / VOVWORLD): The UK received a severe warning from the European Union on Wednesday and by December 10 it had resolved the licensing issue required by French fishermen.

Fishermen complain that post-Brexit requirements are too cumbersome.

An EU spokesman said Environment and Fisheries Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius increased demand in a meeting with UK Administrator of the Environment, George Eustice.

France urged the Commission to be “more proactive” in resolving disputes.

“The Commission must give Britain a deadline,” said French Fisheries Minister Annick Girardin.

France is demanding more fishing permits from London and the Channel Islands in Jersey as part of a post-Brexit agreement signed in late 2020.

European fishermen can continue to work in British waters as long as they can prove that they have previously fished in the UK.

However, the French and British are discussing the nature and extent of the evidence needed.

A spokesperson for the UK government told Express that Britain would not change its stance despite the deadline set by the EU. (ANI / VOVWORLD)
