Emily Andre has slammed critics who called Helen George working during pregnancy and told them, “Pregnancy is not a disease.”
The actress was called “very unprofessional” because she continued to shoot the hit drama on BBC One Call the midwife while expecting her second child.
Write exclusively in it GOOD! column, NHS doctor Emily says she finds the comments “funny” and “very old-fashioned.”
Emily, 32, said: “Like Helen, I disagree with these comments.
“It is very common for many women to work for a few weeks before giving birth so that they can save as much maternity leave as possible after giving birth.”
She continued: “Expecting an actress not to work while pregnant is ridiculous and very old-fashioned.

“Pregnancy is not a disease, and if a woman wants to work while she expects, it’s entirely up to her.”
Helen spoke of negativity when she took to Twitter to respond to comments and remind those who criticized her that a pregnant woman “has the right to work.”
The 37-year-old, who plays Trixie Franklin on the show, wrote: “I saw too many ridiculous comments about my pregnancy while filming @ CallTheMidwife1 (thanks also for the wonderful comments!).
“Women get pregnant, our bodies change. But we have the right to work if we decide to do so. How about just supporting him and not questioning him? ”
One tweet, which was deleted after Helen’s response, read: “I think it’s very unprofessional, it’s not like it’s being filmed all year.
“It’s a short window. She has to give up if she wants to get pregnant during the filming. It spoils the continuity and aesthetics of the show.”
A second tweet read, “I love that Helen George is so obviously pregnant that they’re really trying to hide it, but it’s not working very well.”
But Helen also received a lot of support from her 80,000 followers on Twitter, with one saying: “I didn’t even know she was pregnant. Obviously, unlike [critics] I was more involved with the story, the amazing script and the acting.
“I’d rather have Helen with a disguised pregnancy than ever.” #supports women. “
Second added: “I did not notice your pregnancy in the least, but even if I had the right to say that you have the full right to continue working and anyone who makes negative comments must remain silent.
