Doctor assistant arrested after traveling through three states stalking his ex-girlfriend for days

Jacob L. Klein, a 40-year-old medical assistant from Virginia, is charged with second-degree murder

A doctor’s assistant out Virginia is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend three days at her home and workplace before killing her husband and then fleeing.

Jacob L. Klein, 40, was arrested in Virginia on Friday and is now in federal custody.

He is expected to be extradited to New York on a second-degree murder charge.

Klein is accused of murdering 35-year-old Philip L. Rabadi, who was married to Klein’s ex-girlfriend, Elana Z. Radin.

Cops said Rabadi was found “bound and with multiple stab wounds and mutilation to his body” at his home in New Scotland, New York, near the state capital Albany.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said authorities and loved ones found Rabadi during a welfare check after he failed to show up for work in St. Louis. Peter’s Hospital in Albany – where he also worked as a physician’s assistant.

Apple revealed that investigators had suspicions about why Klein stalked the 29-year-old woman, but did not go into detail. Rabadi did not know Klein at all.

Klein is believed to have stalked his ex in the three days prior to the attack, without her knowing, according to the Times-Union.

Using data and video from license plate readers, door video cameras and other electronic devices, including cell phone data, investigators were able to collaborate on a timeline of Klein’s activities before and after the murder.

It showed how Klein had visited the couple’s home in the days leading up to the alleged murder.

Klein drove from Franklin County, Virginia, to Albany, New York, where he rented a car from Enterprise and presumably stalked the victim’s home and hospital from which Rabadi and his wife worked.

Rabadi was a surgical assistant doctor and had started working at St. Peter’s Hospital in 2019.

Wednesday morning, after his ex had already gone to work, Klein walked to the front door of the couple’s house where Rabadi opened it.

Surveillance camera footage shows Rabadi ‘reacting as if throwing a weapon’.

After the alleged murder, last Wednesday, Klein allegedly returned his rental car and then drove from New York State back to Virginia.

Thursday, his stay was monitored, largely based on tracking his mobile phone.

On Friday, Klein was followed in Memphis, Tennessee before returning to Virginia.

When he reached the Virginia state line, troops from both states stopped with a police helicopter Klein half a mile across the border.

After staying in his car for several minutes and refusing to follow orders, Klein finally sat for a few more minutes before surrendering to the police without incident.

A pistol was found in the car that Klein was driving when he was arrested, but investigators were still on the trail of the weapon.

Klein, a U.S. military veteran, had no previous criminal history.
