Digital reinforcement of ‘smart homes’ for rural communities and businesses in Wales –

ANTUR CYMRU ENTERPRISE is supporting rural communities by enhancing digital communications and connectivity across post-pandemic Wales.

Telemat IT Support, based at the organization’s Antur Teifi Business Park in Newcastle Emlyn, has won contracts to install IoT (Internet of Things) and LoRaWAN technology in support of local authorities ‘aspirations for a network of’ Smart Towns’ focused on economic growth. .

IoT applications will be developed in the 10 rural market towns in Carmarthenshire and the Town’s Wi-Fi will be installed at Brecon, Llanwrtyd Wells, Presteigne, Aberaeron, Llandysul, Lampeter, New Quay and Tregaron.

Business Development Manager Kevin Harrington said: “Telemat is delighted to be supporting the roll-out and adoption of the Home of Things Internet and Wi-Fi applications.

“The development of Smart Home technologies will help local authorities and town councils and traders to collect important visitor data and provide better services to the public.”

He added: “The Covid-19 pandemic and recent inflationary pressures have hit the streets.

“As our parent company Antur Cymru is a social enterprise, this project fits well with our strategic goal of supporting economic development in rural Wales.”

Antur Cymru is also working with Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, and Bro Morgannwg local authorities to install Welsh Government funded Cisco Meraki cloud based systems that can measure the number of people and customer trends in town centers, at provision of critical data that will compile. future retail strategies.

“These regions are moving forward as pioneers in the development of these methods,” Kevin said.

“The results will enable local authorities and planners to identify what is working and what is not working, how to overcome challenges and create positive change that will have a knock-on effect on businesses and their local economies. ”
