A 14-year-old girl has died in a horror incident at an amusement park in Denmark, police said.

The tragedy happened this afternoon when the rear of an 82ft high roller coaster in the Tivoli Friheden park in the city of Aarhus derailed.

‘The two rear seats’ of the ‘Cobra’ ride hang ‘under the car train’, manager Henrik Ragborg Olsen told local media.

Police were called at 12.50 local time after several people got stuck in the drive, but it is still unclear what went wrong.

Three people were immediately taken to hospital, whereupon the girl was confirmed dead shortly thereafter.

A 13-year-old boy was also injured in one hand in the accident and his parents were notified, police said.

The severity of their injuries is still unknown.

After the incident, all guests were evacuated and the park was closed for the rest of the day, police added.

On the Facebook page of Tivoli Friheden it was stated in a statement: ‘The accident happened while the track was in operation and the rear car was broken off.

‘Two people were injured. Their condition is currently unknown.

‘The park was immediately evacuated for visitors and will remain closed until further notice.

‘We have gathered the guests related to the injured – and those who were on the train – and offer psychological help to those who need it.

‘The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, but technical assistance has been sought from experts.

“Out of respect for the injured, we encourage our guests not to share any photos that may have been made in connection with the accident.”
