Colin Firth hates his “unattractive” name. He complains about the lack of a king, poet, and hero called Colin.

The 61-year-old Oscar winner added that he couldn’t properly explain why his parents Shirley and David named him.

He said: “They called me Colin … And there was no satisfactory explanation from their parents why they named their firstborn.

“It doesn’t have a really attractive ring, right?

“There is no king called Colin and no poet I can think of. I have never met a hero called Colin in every book I read.”

But Colin must have forgotten M & S’s Colin the Caterpillar. This is one of the UK’s most beloved chocolate birthday cakes.

He told Candis Magazine: “I watched an episode of Black Adder on TV, where there was a dachshund called Colin.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, it was the 1,019th most popular name in the UK last year because there were only 27 babies called Colin.

In the 1960s, it was one of the names of the top 25 boys.
