A civil lawsuit against actor Bill Cosby on charges of assaulting a teenager at the Playboy mansion in the 1970s is set to begin today, less than a year after he was released from prison.
Judy Hutt, now 62, claims the actor made her drink beer and harassed her in bed in 1974, when she was 15.
She claims that now 84-year-old Cosby, who has no plans to attend the hearing in California, invited her and a friend to the Los Angeles mansion a week after meeting them on a set in a park.
There, she claims, he forced her to have sex.
Ms. Huth filed a lawsuit against Cosby in 2014, seeking unspecified damages for sexual abuse and emotional stress.
He denies the allegations.
Cosby’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjan, said: “We are confident that the evidence will discredit the 50-year-old claim of the plaintiff.”
Gloria Allred, who represents Ms. Hutt, said her client did not comment on the case.
Cosby is best known for his role as a likable husband and father in the 1980s television comedy The Cosby Show, nicknamed “Father of America.”
His family reputation was ruined after more than 50 women accused him of multiple sexual assaults for nearly five decades.
In 2018, Cosby was in prison for anesthesia and harassment Andrea Constant, an employee at his alma mater Temple University, at his home 14 years earlier.
The sentence was canceled last year after Cosby served more than two years in a three- to 10-year sentence.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that Cosby should never have been charged because a former local district attorney had publicly promised in 2005 that he would not be prosecuted.
The Supreme Court of the United States rejected the prosecutor’s request to review the decision in March.
