The daughter of This Morning host Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will never go into detail about the reasons for their breakup, but says her daughter was her main motivation for leaving their marriage.
She told The Sun: “When you tell people you’re getting a divorce, everyone sees it as a very negative thing.
“They say, ‘This is going to be very difficult for you.’ That’s true, but the hardest part was when we got married. The last year of marriage was the worst. It was very dark, painful and one of the worst times of my life and I’m glad it’s over.
“It was incredibly scary. I’m surprised I got through it the way I did. I think more people should take it as a positive. I’m so proud of myself. And I’m so relieved that I’m actually done with it.”
He added that he would never discuss the cause of their breakup in detail to protect his daughter and parents from the “dark and painful experience” he had been through.
