Lukaku struggled for consistency after returning to London from InterMilan last summer for a club-record fee of almost £100million.
The Belgian is Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions, but he’s been in and out of Thomas Tuchelthe first-choice squad, suggesting the 29-year-old could be considering another move, with the prospect of reuniting with Inter a possibility.
A consortium led by Todd Boehly expected to complete its takeover of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich shortly, and Federico Pastorello, Lukaku’s agent, has suggested that any talks will only take place after the deal is done.
Referring to the potential return of his client to Italy, Pastorello said The Republic: “[It is] a lot of noise for nothing. He owns [Inter Milan] and the fans in his heart, he never hid it, like his love for Anderlecht where he would like to end his career.
“But we can’t think of negotiations. Chelsea are in takeover talks, we don’t know the new owners, let alone if we can open talks with Inter or AC Milan. We have to wait.”
Chelsea take on Liverpool in the FA Cup final this weekend with Lukaku in good recent form.
The striker has scored three goals in his last two games and hopes to start at Wembley after starting on the bench when the two clubs met in the Carabao Cup tie-breaker earlier this year.
Pastorello admitted to being disappointed with the way Lukaku’s season has gone but believes there have been positives with the striker determined to finish the campaign strong.
“For the price of the transfer, nobody could have expected such a situation,” conceded Pastorello.
“I’m not discussing tactical choices, but it’s obvious there was a problem. The numbers, however, have to be considered – he’s still the team’s top scorer, with less playing time compared to his teammates.
“The situation needs to be carefully assessed, now there is Champions League qualification to secure, there is the FA Cup final. Romelu is focused on that, we haven’t talked about anything else.
