California: Girl badly injured after Coyote attack on beach | World news

A girl has been seriously injured after a coyote attacked her on a beach, California police said.

Officials were called to the scene at Huntington Beach Pier on Thursday at 9:45 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Carey.

They found the young girl with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries” before she was taken to the hospital.

She was sitting with two women and another small child by the sea when she “slipped a few feet” and was attacked, said Captain Patrick Foy of the Fish and Wildlife Department.

The animal came out of the darkness and killed the girl in an attack that lasted 12 seconds, he added.

It then went around her before her cry it flew.

Two coyotes were shot by police after the incident and will be tested for rabies and matched with the victim’s DNA.

The animals are common in California, with about 10 to 12 attacks in the state per year, Captain Foy said.

It is normal for small children, but adults have suffered some seizures, he added.
