Buveur D’Air, the winner of the DUAL Champion Hurdle, was able to make the long-awaited comeback at Haydock next weekend.
Nicky Henderson’s star hasn’t been seen since he was horribly injured in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle over a year ago.
The 11-year-old boy had immediate surgery to remove significant debris from his hooves and hasn’t been on track since at Martin’s Town Stud at JP McManus.
Henderson returned the star to full training earlier this winter and is now approaching a comeback after joining the Unibet Champion Hurdle this week.
Henderson said: “He has returned to a serious job for a moment. We were very impressed with what we saw here.
“Even if we ignore what happened to him, we are very happy with him.
“We are now training him a little differently. He just goes on the grass. But with all the rain we are experiencing, it was okay.

“It’s great for everyone because he’s what we call earlier than planned.
“He has two races and may go to Haydock with him for the Champion Hurdle Trial next weekend.
“But if it’s raining and it’s off, Sundown needs to fall back to the race he won earlier.”
Meanwhile, Stablemate and Gold Cup candidate Champ is preparing for next weekend’s away day as Henderson has been unable to find a suitable race.
Champ hasn’t been seen since the dramatic RSA win at last year’s festival, but remains a common 10-1 chance for the Gold Cup.
He was given a hurdle entry for Paddy Power Stayers today [Thursday] But his trainer confirmed that it was only in an emergency.
Henderson added: “He is only eligible to run between now and the Gold Cup in two races, the Denman Chase and the Cotswold Chase.
“I would like to run him next week if possible. That’s what I want.
“But he has nothing, so I’ll take him somewhere for a gallop next weekend.
“We need to completely categorize where it is, but at this point we have a plan.
“Stayers entries are very, very important only as a backup.”
