A British woman from Pakistan was found dead in the city of Lahore.
Mayra Zulfiqar is believed to be about 25 years old, and news reports said she was killed after refusing to marry a man.
Zulfiqar’s friend Mohammad Nazeer told police that a man wanted to marry her and threatened her with “disastrous consequences” if she refused.
Pakistan’s English newspaper Dawn reported that Ms. Zulfiqar had bullet wounds and signs of torture on her body.
Stationhouse officer Kasim said the cause of her death was not yet clear.
He told Independent Urdu:
Police detained two men for cross-examination of death.
Zulfiquar arrived in Pakistan for a wedding two months ago and was staying in a rental housing with a friend.
According to Evening Standard, she previously lived in Feltham, western London.
She was a law student at Middlesex University and continued to work as a paralegal.
In a statement submitted to Sky News, the Foreign, Commonwealth Office of Development said: “We are supporting the families of a British woman who died in Pakistan and are urgently seeking more information from the local government.
“Our idea is with the family during this difficult time.”
