A Christmas funfair was reportedly closed after a ride collapsed.

Police and emergency workers rushed to Centenary Square, near Birmingham’s libraries, at 7.30pm.

According to Dunter Attractions, which operates the Christmas amusement park, the StarFlyer ride, which is described as being “55 meters high” and with a “bird’s eye view”, reportedly collapsed.

The vehicle’s description reads: “Come aboard the great StarFlyer and ride the tallest ride around!” This amazing ride will take you high into the sky and give you panoramic views wherever you go. ”

A police cordon is currently in place, and several police cars, an ambulance and a fire engine were pictured at the scene.

Photos posted online appear to show the swing broken and the seats tangled together.

Birmingham Live reported that a police officer said: “There were some injuries, but we don’t know how serious they were.”

A police spokeswoman said “a small number of people are being treated” but no serious injuries were reported.
