“In 1974, I was Linda Ronstadt’s ambiguous opening act at Troubador, Los Angeles,” he recalled.
“As I walked through the lobby before the show, I saw Betty White and her husband Allen Ludden waiting in line.”
“I loved Betty White, so I went to them.’It’s a great honor to meet them.'” And he said, “Isn’t Linda great?” ..
Betty is reported to have told Steve, “We have come to see you.”
When asked why, Betty replied, “I heard you’re funny.”
“I was overjoyed,” Steve said.
