14- and 15-year-old schoolgirl passengers killed in horrific crash; 16-year-old ‘Joyride’ driver charged with death

Police arrested a 16-year-old ‘joyride’ driver after two schoolgirls died in a horrific accident.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter due to negligent driving.

He has also been charged with violating bail, violating a good conduct order, driving as an unattended learner, and failing to stop and provide assistance.

First responders estimated the crash occurred Saturday night, but it went unreported for hours until passers-by saw it.

The car was so badly damaged in the crash that it was difficult to determine its make and model.

Deputy investigator Bryan Tadick said the car was “extremely damaged beyond recognition.”

Two teenage boys, one of whom was behind the wheel at the time of the crash, fled the scene but were later tracked down, police said.

ACT Police said:

“They have been examined by a doctor and are currently assisting investigators from the main crash team with their investigation.”

The Toyota is said to have left the road, crashed through a row of temporary fences and smashed into a tree. News.com.au report.

The two teenage men are currently being questioned by detectives as to what caused the crash and whether “hard speed may have been a factor”.

“Obviously the impact was pretty severe, so maybe speed was a factor,” Tadic said.
