Barclays The mobile banking app is backed up and running after three hours of outages when thousands of customers lost access to their accounts.

Approximately 2,000 users began experiencing problems around 06:00 on BST, according to DownDetector, which monitors website outages.

Barclays confirmed that this issue was fixed shortly after BST 09:00, but did not elaborate on the cause. HSBC and NatWest didn’t do either when they had an online banking problem on Monday.

A Barclays spokesman told MailOnline: ‘We apologize to customers who could not access the Barclays app. You can confirm that the service has been restored.

“Our online banking and phone services were unaffected and our customers were able to transfer, pay and check their balances.”

According to DownDetector, the majority of reported issues (68%) were related to mobile banking, with an additional 25% related to online banking and 7% mobile login.

On Twitter, the bank admitted that there was a problem and wrote: “We are currently investigating the issue. We will update it here as soon as possible.”

A few hours later, NatWest also had a problem and customers had trouble logging into their accounts via online and mobile banking.

Both banks apologized for the confusion when the issue was fixed, but neither revealed the cause of their outages.
