Six people were killed and ten injured in a mass shooting California‘s capital early Sunday morning when a gunman opened fire with an automatic rifle at a group of revelers fighting outside a bar.

Sacramento police said shots were fired near 10th and J Streets, about two blocks from the Capitol building, around 2 a.m., prompting officials to walk to the scene.

When police arrived in the area, known for its strip of nightclubs and bars, a large group gathered and found six dead in the street. Ten other victims were transported by ambulance and private cars to hospitals in the area. Their conditions remain unknown.

“A lot of victims with blood, just watching some of the families who did not know if their loved one was alive, running, trying to figure out what was going on, people helpless, people discombobulated,” Accius said. “It was just awful.”
