Anti-fracker “ignorant”, says Ineos boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Sir Jim Ratcliffe claims an “ignorant minority” of anti-fracking campaigners are failing Britain’s energy revolution

Industrialist Sir Jim Ratcliffe claims an “ignorant minority” of anti-fracking campaigners failed in Britain’s energy revolution.

The billionaire founder of chemicals group Ineos said politicians have “completely ignored” the science surrounding shale gas extraction and have instead been swayed by public perceptions of the “so-called dangers” of fracking.

The UK banned the practice in 2019 over fears it causes earthquakes.

Influenced by public perception: Sir Jim Ratcliffe said politicians have “completely ignored” the science surrounding shale gas exploration.

Ineos had spent £250million on UK fracking projects before the ban, funds the tycoon said were “destroyed with a political switch”.

He wrote in The Daily Telegraph that the decision left the UK vulnerable to the global energy crisis.
