The four-mile A1 (M) southbound lane was closed between junction 59 for Newton Ecliffe, Durham County, and junction 58 for Darlington in the same area. The HGV broke out at around 2.20 am և Ambulance crews worked for hours to put out the fire.

The North Road was closed from the 32 junctions near Blackpool to Fleetwood to 33 junctions near Lancaster.

Drivers were advised to be careful when approaching.

The camera image of the highway shows a mostly empty road with a fire truck in the center of the three lanes.

The fire services left for the scene to provide assistance.

National Highways said in a statement on Twitter: “Traffic was stopped north of # M6 # J32 #Blackpool #Fleetwood և J33 #Lancaster # A6 near @motoway # LancasterServices.

“@ LancashireFRS is at the scene due to a car fire. Delays increase on approach, please be careful. Follow the updates. ”
