Two teenage girls were caught on a CCTV handstand at a railroad crossing because Network Rail warned that the railroad was “not a photo opportunity.”

The incident occurred in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, on a series of tracks used by trains traveling up to 80mph.

Police said the girls had shown that they were “overtly ignoring the safety of themselves and others.”

Some people were standing on the truck and taking pictures, and one was lying down and posing.

A recent study of an intersection in the Attenborough Nature Reserve recorded 22 cases of misuse in just nine days.

Gary Walsh, Route Director of Network Rail, said: ‘This action at the railroad crossing in the nature reserve is absolutely shocking.

“The railroad is not an opportunity to take pictures, and it is never safe to stop by or hang out on the railroad tracks.

“The two girls doing handstands are completely unaware of the dangers they face.

“This incident could have had tragic consequences not only for them, but also for their friends and family.”

Inspector Mark Clements of the British Railroad Police said: ‘The people in this video clearly show that they are shockingly and blatantly ignoring the safety of themselves and others.

“Traveling is a crime and can cause tragic consequences and life-threatening injuries.

“We regularly patrol the area, pay attention to the area around the railroad, and remind everyone of the importance of trespassing.”

Network Rail said it’s doing “everything it can” to improve railroad crossing safety, but “cooperating with us” requires a community.
