A man called James Bond threatened to “shoot a policeman on his teeth” during a six-hour standoff after swearing at his neighbor who complained that he was blowing loud music.

The 55-year-old, who shares his name with 007, was imprisoned for more than two years after his drunken explosion brought Manchester’s “fear and horror on the street.”

After dropping the bottle of vodka and not taking antipsychotics, Bond began playing loud music on February 7 before hitting the wall adjacent to his neighbor’s property.

After the police withdrew and asked for a backup with an armed police officer, he finally moved in at around 11:00 am on a six-hour standoff with Bond.

A hearing at Minshal Street Crown Court reported that he had a hard time dealing with the sudden death of his father to Covid just weeks before the incident.

The court heard that Bond, who had been convicted 18 times for 28 violations in the past, also lost his son in 2017.

Defender Ian John Stone said Bond wasn’t taking the prescribed antipsychotics and added that the client faced losing his mother who had been hospitalized for the virus that night. She died afterwards.

“He’s a gentleman who has managed to overcome the difficulties he faced,” said John Stone.

“He immediately showed signs of guilty plea, and it appears to be a one-off case.

“Actually, (in this case) is a 55-year-old man who is drunk at his home and has mental health problems. It is not the type of situation that represents a serious disability.

“The probation service has a high risk of recidivism and the director’s record is good.”

However, Judge Sophie McCorn, who handed down the ruling, said Bond’s actions provided a “very scary experience” for everyone involved.

“Facing a gun must have been a very scary experience for them,” she said.

“You remained aggressive and shouted at people for hours.

“It lasted for hours, and only after a few hours of negotiations did you give up yourself.

“It led to horror and horror on the street.”

James Bond of Annesley Road pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm intended to cause fear of violence. Use threatening words and actions.
