The victim, believed to be British, died after falling from the notorious Caminito del Rey path near the village of El Chorro in Malaga.
Her body was recovered by emergency services after the alarm was raised just after 7pm on Friday night.
Her male companion faked his death by holding on to a brush-covered rock that was overhanging his friend when he fell. He was said to be in a state of shock when he was rescued.
The climbers were next to a hiking area known as the Arabian Steps in the Swiss section of the popular rock climbing area when the incident occurred.

Police said the survivor said he lost his balance and fell down the side of the ravine.
