She told the Mail last year: “The moment the rubble was discovered and we knew there were no survivors, Alina and I went out on deck. Until that moment, we had hope. We took some cushions and just… We were sitting there looking out at the ocean. We were both crying.
“I turned to her and said, ‘I’m a widow now.'” She said, “Yes, I’m an only child.” Then we cried some more. ”

The sea was warm enough for us to walk and I really felt them all around me. “This is such a wonderful gift,” I thought. I don’t need a grave. Because I get to connect with them every time I’m at sea. Because they are part of the ocean. ”
“We stood there with our skirts over our arms and cried for 10 minutes straight. It was very, very cathartic. Now I think they’re just sleeping there. [in the ocean]. ”
