Now that the coronation of King Charles is finished, we can return to our daily grind once again. But even while it provided us with a pleasurable respite from work, it makes us want to plan our summer holidays, doesn’t it? Most of us can’t wait for the summer season to start, and it promises to have its fair share of sun and cool breezes. So if you are deciding where to go this summer, why not stay within the country?
We can all agree that the coronation on the 6th of May brought a distinct patriotism – and a love of all things British – with it, and what better way to continue the celebration than by going off to the UK’s most scenic spots? Better yet, why not take the whole family (or your special someone) biking for a change? It can be your very own biking holiday. To spur you on even more, here’s a list of the best places to bike in the United Kingdom.
The Lake District
The Lake District, located in the northwest of England, is one popular destination for biking enthusiasts of all levels. It has beautiful lakes and stunning mountains, and there are plenty of trails for anyone to explore. A favourite of serious cyclists is the ever-challenging Honister Pass, with its steep inclines, but if you want something more relaxed, you can leisurely bike around Lake Windermere. The area also has many cycle-friendly cafes and pubs, making finding somewhere to refuel after a long ride easy. And to better protect yourself from an accident, make sure you choose a good quality bike and wear the right safety gear – it is better to be safe than sorry, especially if you don’t want to be involved in a cycle accident!
The Cotswolds
If you are looking for another biking destination, look no further than the Cotswolds. This area in central England is popular for bikers looking for a more relaxed, scenic ride, and with its picturesque villages and rolling hills, the area is perfect! The Cotswolds is also home to many pubs and cafes which are all cycle-friendly, making it easy to take a break and refuel. Make sure to go on the Cotswold Line Trail, and it’s a route that will take you to many of the area’s most scenic spots.
The Peak District
The Peak District is also popular for mountain bikers, and it has challenging hills and rugged terrain – it’s undoubtedly the perfect place for experienced riders to test their skills. It is home to many dedicated bike trails, including the exhilarating Ladybower Loop and the Black Rocks Trail. If you want a more relaxed ride, plenty of easier routes offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The Yorkshire Dales
If you are in the north of England, the Yorkshire Dales offer some of the most challenging rides in the UK. With its rugged terrain and steep hills, it’s the perfect destination for more serious cycling enthusiasts. The area also has many dedicated cycle routes, including the difficult Buttertubs Pass and the exhilarating Tan Hill to Reeth route. Alternatively, if you are looking for a ride that’s more relaxed and less challenging, there are many easier routes that come with the best views of the area.
