TripAdvisor has revealed that one million reviews posted in 2020 are fake (and explains how to find genuine submissions).

Tripadvisor revealed that the one million reviews it received in 2020 were fake. That’s 3.6% of the more than 26 million reviews submitted.

This number was revealed in the company’s 2021 Review Transparency Report, which prevents 67.1% of fake review submissions from appearing on the platform.

In total, TripAdvisor said it penalized 34,605 ​​properties for fraud and banned 20,299 members in 2020 for failing to comply with community standards.

Tripadvisor fraud investigators have identified 65 new paid review sites and blocked sending paid reviews from a total of 372 different paid review sites.

Tripadvisor has also removed 46,145 reviews that do not comply with the new Covid-19 Posting Guidelines.

In total, over 2 million reviews submitted (8.6% of the total) were either rejected manually or by an “advanced review analysis system” or removed from the platform.
